UFC 247: Jon Jones vs Dominick Reyes Odds & Picks

Jon “Bones” Jones, the light heavyweight champion and pound-for-pound best fighter in the UFC, is back in action on February 8 for UFC 247 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. This will be the fight between reigning UFC heavyweight champion and pound-to-pound great Jon Jones and so far undefeated contender Dominick Reyes at UFC 246. Since both fighters have a perfect record, this should be an amazing fight to see, because Jones is finally meeting a worthy opponent.

Jon Jones (-450) vs Dominick Reyes(+325)

It is no surprise to see Jones as a large favorite with that being the case ever since he smashed Stephan Bonnar way back at UFC 94. That was the last time Bones was an underdog and he has closed as a favorite of -400 or more 12 times since then. Similarly, this is the first time that Dominick Reyes will walk to the Octagon as an underdog. The Devastator is 6-0 in the UFC with four first-round finishes.

Jon Jones will be defending his heavyweight title in this fight. So far his record is (25-1). Jones wasn’t fighting since his successful split decision win over Thiago Santos in July. An interesting fact is that Jones have chosen to defend his belt against Reyes, despite the chance to fight against his fellow division contender Corey Anderson. ”Bones” regained his belt from Daniel Cormier in 2017,  a fight now deemed a no-contest after Jon has failed a drug test after the fight. Jones has since won against Anthony Smith,  Thiago Santos and  Alexander Gustafsson.

Last month Reyes (12-0) secured a first-round knockout over the former middleweight champion and light-heavyweight debutant Chris Weidman. Also, he has beaten such fighters as Jared Cannonier, Ovince Saint Preux and Volkan Oezdemir since he signed for the UFC in 2017. A very nice to see the 29-year-old fighter saying that it would be his honor to fight such player as Jones since he is currently number one in the pound for pound fighter list. No matter how this fight ends, both players don’t want to trash talk and show respect to each other, also it shows them both being careful.

Prediction

Jon Jones has exceptional talent, rising through the ranks with his high-level wrestling that he would use to take his opponents down and before finishing them with nasty ground and pound. He has gotten some flak for looking unmotivated in some fights and fighting down to the level of his opponents. That said, it seems more like he is trying to beat his foes at their own game, namely striking, which is likely his weakest area – not that it’s bad at all. We would love to see Jones go back to his wrestling style that we haven’t seen in a while. Reyes had a difficult time with Volkan Oezdemir’s forward pressure when the two met in March of last year, and Jones really bullied Santos in his last bout. I

Pick: Jon Jones -450
