Real Madrid became the first side in the Champions League era to retain the trophy last season as they thrashed the previously impenetrable Juventus in the final, and so far this season they have shown no signs that they will be relinquishing the trophy easily.
Their opening two Champions League matches have seen them beat APOEL 3-0 at home and come away from Borussia Dortmund with a 3-1 win, leaving them joint top of the group with a six point advantage on 3rd placed Dortmund. They could go clear at the top with a win on Tuesday, as they face 2nd placed Tottenham who are looking to continue their impressive start to the campaign.
Tottenham finally broke the curse of Wembley on Saturday as they edged to victory over Bournemouth, claiming their first Premier League win at their temporary home. They had previously managed to beat Dortmund there in the first game of the Champions League groups though, and they followed that with a 3-0 win against APOEL to mirror their opponents results.
Spurs’ win on Saturday extends their unbeaten run to nine matches in all competitions, and they have scored in all but one of their competitive matches this season. However, they have only ever won three away games in the Champions League, drawing three and losing four including a thrashing at the Bernabeu in 2011. On the plus side, they have scored in all but two of these ten games.
Real Madrid is at 2/5 to win, a draw is at 15/4, and a Tottenham win is at 6/1.
Real Madrid vs Tottenham Hotspur News & Prediction
Real Madrid: Zinedine Zidane may or may not be able to field goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who is said to be day to day with his fitness. Those that are definitely out at the moment are right back Daniel Carvajal, winger Gareth Bale, and center midfielder Mateo Kovacic. Striker Karim Benzema is working his way back into form, but we shouldn't expect to see him fielded from the start here for the second game in a row.
Tottenham Hotspur: Mauricio Pochettino will continue to be without attacking midfielder Dele Alli in this match due to his suspension. As well as that, defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama and left back Danny Rose remain out for another week or so. Winger Erik Lamela is also out for a couple more weeks with an injury. We would not be shocked to see Pochettino go to a back three in an attempt to take on Madrid in wide areas while having an extra center back.
